SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS
The Richardson ISD Foundation provides scholarships to help students pay for their future in technical schools, colleges, universities or vocational schools. This year, the Foundation is proud to team up with several community partners to offer $58,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors in the Richardson Independent School District.
Scholarships Overview & Criteria

SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: One (1) $2,500 scholarship
SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
The Alyssa Little Foundation Scholarship is awarded in memory of Alyssa Little, who graduated from JJ Pearce. Alyssa was an inspiration to everyone she met. This scholarship honors a graduating senior from JJ Pearce High School.SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
• Minimum GPA of 2.50.
• Student must be a full-time student at a two- or four-year accredited college or university.
• Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation. One recommendation
must be from a teacher or counselor.
• Award based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, personal character, and outside
activities such as work, volunteer service, etc.
• This scholarship is non-renewable.
• Required Essay Topic: Write about an event or person that has influenced your life in some way. -
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: One (1) $8,000 scholarship
SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
The Anderson Bonner Endowment Scholarship is named for former slave and extensive North Dallas landowner Anderson Bonner. Mr. Bonner amassed nearly 2,000 acres of land in the Richardson School District by selling the produce he and his family raised on their farms. Mr. Bonner greatly valued education.SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
• Minimum GPA of 2.75.
• Student must attend Prairie View A&M University full-time with a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
• Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation. One recommendation
must be from a teacher or counselor.
• This scholarship is non-renewable.
• Required Essay Topic: Write about an event or person that has influenced your life in some way. -
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS:
• One (1) $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in AVID from Berkner High School
• One (1) $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in AVID from Lake Highlands High School
• One (1) $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in AVID from Pearce High School
• One (1) $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in AVID from Richardson High SchoolSCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
The Dr. Carolyn G. Bukhair AVID Scholarship was named in honor of Dr. Carolyn G. Bukhair. Dr. Bukhair served as superintendent of RISD for many years. As superintendent, she was instrumental in bringing the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) program to Richardson. This scholarship recognizes graduating seniors from L.V. Berkner, Lake Highlands, J.J. Pearce, and Richardson high schools who have demonstrated success in the AVID program.SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
• Minimum GPA of 2.50.
• Students must have participated in the AVID program for at least two years.
• Students must attend an accredited college, university, community college, technical or trade school.
• Award based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, and personal character.
• Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation.
• This scholarship is non-renewable.

SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: One (1) $1,500 scholarship
SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
The HIPPY program was created to partner with parents to prepare their children for success in school. HIPPY focuses on the power of parents and caregivers to positively affect early brain development and school readiness for preschool children. The NCJW scholarship was established to honor and encourage a former HIPPY preschool student to continue their education in college.SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
• Minimum GPA of 2.50.
• Former HIPPY preschool student who participated in HIPPY for two (2) or three (3) years.
• Student must be a full-time student at a two-year or four-year accredited college or university.
• Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation. One recommendation
must be from a teacher or counselor.
• Award based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, and personal character.
• This scholarship is non-renewable.
• Required Essay Topics:
o How has HIPPY affected your families’ lives? Please share how your parent(s) have helped you to be
successful in school. How did HIPPY benefit and/or affect you and your family? Be specific.

SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: One (1) $1,000 scholarship
SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
Janet Bliss Mello was a teacher with Richardson ISD for 24 years, teaching at Yale and Hamilton Park Elementary Schools and in the Gifted & Talented Program. Her calling in life was education, and she worked passionately and tirelessly to improve learning for children. This scholarship is intended to help a student who qualifies to attend a four-year college or university and pursue a degree and career in education.SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Student must attend a four-year accredited college or university with the intended purpose of becoming a
teacher.
• Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation. One
recommendation must be from a teacher or counselor.
• This scholarship is non-renewable.
• Award is based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, and personal character.
• Required Essay Topic: Why teaching is my career choice. -
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS: Two (2) $500 scholarships
SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
The Richardson Art Teacher Society established this scholarship in honor of former RISD Art Coordinator and art teacher Kay Savay. Two (2) scholarships will be awarded to a graduating senior from any of the four Richardson ISD high schools whose stated goal is to study the visual arts.SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
• Minimum GPA of 2.50.
• Students must attend a two or four-year accredited college or university full-time and major in an area of
Visual Arts.
• Students must turn in a flash drive of their portfolio to their art teacher to be sent to the committee for
review.
• Award based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, and personal character.
• Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation.
• This scholarship is non-renewable.
• Required Essay Topic: Write about an event or person that has influenced your life in some way. -
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS: Four (4) $2,000 scholarships
SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
The Memorial Park Academy Scholarship was established by The Richardson ISD Foundation to honor students who have overcome significant obstacles to go on to successful school careers and graduation.SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
• Minimum GPA of 2.50.
• Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation. One recommendation
must be from a teacher or counselor.
• This scholarship is non-renewable.
• Required Essay Topic: Write about an event or person that has influenced your life in some way. -
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS: Two (2) $1,000 scholarships
SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
Tessa Birdine Pettigrew graduated from Berkner High School in the Class of 1995 and went on to further her education at the University of North Texas. She faced many obstacles over the course of her life, but her belief in the power of education never wavered. Mrs. Pettigrew had a transformative in her community. She mentored and coached young adults to help them find their passion, path and purpose. Mrs. Pettigrew guided them and empowered them to believe that they could achieve their dreams. This scholarship, honoring her legacy, will support two Berkner High School graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary education.
